Area Health Education Center
The North Central Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is based in Covington. There are 7 AHEC offices across Kentucky. They all work with the academic medical centers at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

In Northern Kentucky, AHEC:

  • Arranges rotations for medical students with local doctors.
  • Presents health education programs in schools.
  • Organizes health occupations programs in schools.
  • Runs the Promotores program, training for Hispanics in basic health care and medicine.After training, the Promotores volunteers help their neighbors locate Spanish-speaking medical and social service resources.
